Why Pirated VCDs

This is a forwarded e-mail circulating in cyberspace. I say NO to piracy, but I wonder who wrote these funny reasons.

Top 10 reasons why we SHOULD buy pirated VCDs.

1. Free black plastic bag
You can't get those cool black coloured bags anywhere. The ones sold outside are too big and they are meantfor the tong sampah.

2. Family bond
Every weekend, when you go to wangsa maju JJ, you can see little kids running to the VCD shop to select their favourite Pokemon cartoon VCD. And then mommy will come along to find her favourite Teresa Teng VC2D.
Next comes big sister to select her F4 VCD. And lastly, big bro and daddy searching for the latest movies ... and try to eye for some you-know-what VCD. Anyway, the whole idea is, the pirated VCD shop is
like a place for weekend family reunion. When was the last time you saw daddy buying little Billy a VCD in Speedy Video ?

3. Cinema sucks
When you reach the cinema, you'll have to line up for 15 minutes before it's your turn to get the ticket. By then, they tell you ticket sudah habis. So you buy tickets for the next show and have to wait another 3 hours. When the time comes, the ticket usher stops you from bringing nasi lemak and cha-kuay-teow into the hall.So you're forced to line up another 10 minutes in the snack bar. By then, you're already late for the show. Lampu sudah tutup when you go in. Oooppss.. terjatuh and veryone laughs at you. Next, the cinema bores you with 15 minutes of
iklan. Frankly speaking, I dunno why the government ban 'triple x' VCDs when all the beer commercials in the cinema feature sluts dancing around. Later, your handphone rings and everyone boos you. At last,
the show ends but you'll need to beratur through the smelly exit. After 30 minutes, you notice that your handphone is lost. The only thing good about cinemas is the fact that you can throw kua-chi on the floor.

4. Customer Friendly Sellers. Buying VCDs from the stall is like dining in a luxury restaurant. First, those blond hair sellers will greet you with 'leng-chai'. It's now time to order the meal. If you know what to order, they will search the title for you. But if you're undecided, these fellas will suggest some meals for you. Strangely, all movies
(according to them) are nice to watch. When you've finished, here comes the main course. The rectangular box containing all the finest artistic international stuff.(porn?).. And you can bargain too! But when you buy VCDs from Speedy Video, the shop assistants will stand few meters away from you, with their arms tied and eyes alert, thinking that you're another shoplifter.

5. Beli barang buatan Malaysia
The title says it all. No need to say more.

6. You go to the movies...while watching the most suspense part in a love movie....as the guy and girl are about to kiss...all of a sudden, the screen goes into matrix mode. And then it changes to some dull scene. Doesn't this sound familiar? Say thank you to our censorship board for helping us remove the "naughty" parts. You never get this when you buy pirated CDs.

7. 6 years ago, piracy was a minority because of the original CD pricing and contents. 3 years ago, they increased original CD prices by 70% and say it's because of import duties, tax and other crap. While at
the same time, the pirated CD prices drop by 50% - 70%. Customers would prefer to buy from a sale right?

8. Piracy helps students to learn new programs at a reduced price cost. If every student is going to spend RM800 just to buy Adobe Photoshop, then Malaysia would lag behind in the computer graphics industry. So in
the long run, Malaysia's economic status becomes better with more knowledgeable citizens.

9. As people are willing to spend money on pirated CDs but not that willing to buy original cds, they are circulating the money and helping to increase the GDP.

10. Pirated VCDs offer the latest movies, even before they are shown in the U.S.! Compare this to original VCDs,where you have to wait for a few months after the movie is first released.

I can't believe this is coming from you Yvonne... If so, it better be a joke because piracy has caused the lost of trillions of dollars in the way of revenue..

Huge computing, music and movie industries are on the verge of collapsing because of piracy.

Think about it... do you want someone to illegally copy something you've worked so hard on in the future?

Say NO to piracy...

You. Must. Be. Joking.

Yes, definitely no piracy. This was not written by me. It's a forwarded e-mail. I posted it up to encourage thoughts and opinions.

Malaysian Private Education Cost - high. Price of Petrol - going higher. Standard of Living - depends how you look at it. Astro - going higher. Chicken - going higher. Teh Tarik - gonna increase. Roti Chanai - gonna increase. Prices of Original Movies, Software, etc - ridiculous.

Pirated CDs? It's most welcome to me. Some points make sense. *shrugs*

Anyway, this forwarded email is a joke. Treat it like one.

Hmm.. Couldn't agree more (though I don't buy pirated VCDs). But then again, it's a good laugh :)

"Huge computing, music and movie industries are on the verge of collapsing because of piracy."

How more knee jerk and dramatic can you get? Yer a student? Go and check whether your uni subscribes to any company research providers and have a review of the current results of these companies before pontificating your idiocies spurned by your rumpus oblongata.

D

haha... and I thought simon can talk was talking!! :) Nevertheless, a good post.

you're absolutely right..

=D

Oi Yvonne lengloi, ham dai ngam mou?

That quote rulez! I lived in Wangsa Maju before and the whole street is lit up by pirated CD stalls.

no doubt

Pirated CDs?Personally I don't agree with it (if I were the artiste).

However, yeah, I do agree with some of the points above....they should lower the price of the originals. Not everyone can afford them, and there is no minimum wage thing here, so it is pretty expensive for those from medium wage earners....

@D - It doesn't take a uni student to know this.. Why do you think the American music industry rose up to destroy Grockster's Kazaa?

On whole... prices of CDs are high and at times can be a rip off... But if you really like a certain movie or artiste, you should support them by buying one of those rip off original CDs..

If not, don't bother buying them at all...

Cut on who's revenue? The artist that create the songs/movies or the programmer that made the program?

Both are paid pittance, while the bulk of the money goes somewhere else.

An entire generation's culture is now being owned by organization that only think about their own profits.

I don't condone piracy, but at the same time I know the current method is not good for the consumer, and the artists.

I believe the only way to reduce piracy and to increase revenue is to cut the middle-men. Let free market rule rather than specific companies holding exclusive rights to certain works of art. If you cut the middle men, it will be cheaper for the consumer and the artist will get a bigger cut. In turn things will get even cheaper because extra revenue can be poured in to developing better works of art/programs.

I for one cannot tolerate, if there are foreign companies claiming rights to our works of art or Our contemporary culture. I shudder to think of the day, when some foreign company scoops the rights to national treasures like P.Ramlees movies and then refuses to let us watch them unless we pay them money!

Chinese getting straight As are not allowed into universities. Not allowed civil service jobs. That is blatant discrimination.

Why do you support such discrimination?

Chinese Malaysians have built very successful businesses, hence they have the wealth that they have. This is not greed. They worked for what they now own.

Why do you envy what does not belong to you? Is this not greed?

It is quite untrue that business offers are conducted on the basis of race. Starting any business is very very hard work, but the malays did not have a hard working tradition to persevere. This is a cultural change the malays need in order to conduct businesses successfully.

Armed with this knowledge, do you still insist that Chinese Malaysians are greedy, and therefore it is right for malays to take what does not belong to them?

Your perception of business in Malaysia has got to be wrong.

Most goods and services can be conducted in open markets, and there is no particular reason to single out malays so that Chinese businessmen should swindle them. There are lots of swindlers in business so it is not just malays who get swindled.

Successful businessmen depend on providing real benefits to customers and partners so that it is worthwhile for them to do business again and again to both parties benefit. It is only when customers also get rich that businesses can grow.

The discrimination against Chinese, Indians and other peoples cannot be tolerated in the modern world. Countries that do this will face long-term decline.

Hard working people are not greedy as you accuse them. They are hard working because they have a mission in life to prosper, to give offspring a good chance in life to live to the full, to contribute their talents to the betterment of society……….

This is not greed.

Whereas, envy of others wealth and taking what they have not worked for is greed.

I would put is stronger. It is robbery and corruption. You talk like a Mafia extortionist when you said that worse could happen to the Chinese, so be thankful because there are more malays than Chinese, and therefore they can take even more from the Chinese if they want to.

You have to be joking to believe that your greed and prejudices are the wonderful things about Malaysia. Well, may be you do.

Malaysia as describe it is a country based on racism, lack of a conscience, and greed (taking from hard working foreigners).

Meritocracy is denounced. Robbing the wealthy is promoted.

How can there be a good future for such a country?

Looking from outside of Malaysia, it is easy to see that the malay-controlled government is enforcing a wealth-robbing programme from the Chinese who earned their wealth through hard works.

By barring bright well-qualified Chinese Malaysians from entering Malaysian universities, Malaysia is pursuing a discriminatory policy based on race.

This is not tolerated in civilised countries. It is a policy that gives Malaysia a very bad reputation and deprives itself of its most talented.

It is a policy which tells the malays that robbing from the rich is not greed because being rich, being educated is the same as being greedy.

This is moral corruption and self-contradiction which Malaysia will pay a very heavy price.

The problem with Malaysia ministers is that they are mostly underachievers academically!

That is the reason why they simply speak without logic and reasons. This is also the very reason that I admire Lim Kit Siang, Karpal, etc, who can debate intelligently with those monkeys who never bother to understand what is uttered.

Just compare the resume of Malaysia ministers with that from our southern neighbour! Then you will understand.

I know their prime minister has a first class honors in science from Cambridge if I am not mistaken. The rest of his cabinets are very highly qualified. Hence you don't hear nonsense from them.

For your information, some Malaysia ministers would not be at all qualified for even an assistant post!

Our country leaders, not necessary meaning the prime minister, but overall people in power, people of authority, etc have no integrity, no moral, no self respect and most of no accountability and responsibility.

Let's not compare with other countries, as no countries have perfect leaders, but what they have is integrity.

When they do something wrong and they know it is wrong, nobody need to tell them to resign, they won't say our Malaysia usual line "Nobody can resign me except the prime minister" - we should call this the ball-less line.

If you have integrity and honest enough, you should just resign.

Does anyone really expect Pak Lah to full frontally outright challenge the malay special rights?

Even if he wants to, he can't; Umno will disown him. I like to think that when he mentioned subsidies he was thinking of the special ones the malays receive as well.

Everywhere I go, it is the same. The malays expecting the government to enforce this or that special privileges. The Chinese expecting the government to pull back those special privileges.

Malays are deteriorating in social and moral values so fast in the last few years that we shudder to think what is going to happen in the next few years!

Apostasy, incest, molest, rape, sodomy, unwed pregnancies cases are getting out of hand and spreading throughout the country!

So many malay youths are incarcerated in drug rehabilitation centres, prisons, and that so much money is being wasted on these social delinquents!

Islam in Malaysia is a total disgrace. Malays are a disgrace lot. In due time they will take their proper place among the Orang Asli and the Orang Asli will have moved on.

A genetically flawed race cannot be fixed by politically. Nature will take its course and globalization will put them out to pasture.

What have we got now?

Brain drain, economic disparity getting wider, poor education system, racial segregation, widespread corruption, uncompetitive and inefficiency of the government departments and others.

Likewise, fixing the nation's problems begins with you - all of us.
