The Blogging Mile High Club
Its obvious that there are a lot of Malaysian bloggers. But i am curious about the longevity of our bloggers -- how many people stick with it over an extended period of time and how many consider it a fad. Its a generally serious question because the numbers and the relative proportion will tell us a lot about the future of Malaysian bloggers: (a) what our potential impact will be on the society and (b) what are the long term prospects of bloggers in Malaysia -- are we here to stay?
Using this posting as a quick and dirty survey, drop a comment here if you've been around long enough to rack up 1,000 or more blog postings. Its highly like that if you've reached this number of postings then (a) you've been blogging for quite some time and (b) blogging is now a habit that will be very difficult to stop doing in the future.
Spread the word about this survey -- at the end of the next 30 days or so, then we'll compare the number of Mile High bloggers the Malaysian blogosphere has against the estimated number of total bloggers there are in Malaysia. It'll be very revealing to see the ratio.

well, i've passed 1500+ posts and most of the posts are quite substantial i.e. lengthy (to put it euphemistically ;)) and i've been blogging since april 2002, that's 3+ years, so yeah, i guess that makes me a part of the blogging mile high club.
i imagine i would continue blogging well into the future, if not forever.

2,000+ blog postings. Seems like i've been blogging forever. :)
Its just too much fun to stop. Almost like my daily dose of coffee. I read, i think, i share my thoughts on my blog.
My blog has become an extension of my thoughts. It may not be worth much to anyone else, but it acts as a huge therapeutic device for me.
Putting down things on my blog is like putting down things on paper: it makes everything clearer for me; it helps organize my thoughts and, sometimes, emotions.
That's invaluable, imho. Its like having a friend to talk to and bounce ideas on. The best RM$ investment i make each year.

i started my photoblog on 01.01.2002 - http://queenfisher.net/daily/image/index/2002/
it's mostly for me to visually record my days and i post almost all of the images to the correct date because that's just how i prefer it to work. still surprised whenever i see the odd comment or get emails about the site.
there's only one post per day, and not every single day at that and then i still use this old script so have no clue how many posts there's been. i could start counting... maybe i'll convert the whole thing to textpattern like the rest of my site someday. maybe.

I've made 303 posts since March. The rest of the last 4 years are with blogger.com. Is there any way to calculate blogger.com posts?
Posted by: Yvonne | October 25, 2005 11:17 AM
I actually started on blogspot, since July 2004. Now with my own domain. I doubt i wrote more than 500 posts.
Posted by: Din | October 25, 2005 11:20 AM
Yes, I have been bloging since October 2002, back then was in Xanga. I started basicly just to keep in touch with friends as I travell alot for work, and kept it going as an outlet for me. I even managed to get a few of my friends to start blogging :)

hehe, i was wondering why a blog like pps was talking about bloggers who 'do it' in the skies... (that's what the mile high club refers to)
hmm, blogs, maybe not so much, but does an average of 30 forum posts a day count? or an average of 20 newsgroup posts?
man, those were the days.

I'm working towards 1000. Dan projects takes me away from blogging. :P
cheers.

hmm i started around killuminati (which i always like to think as kilometrico i dunno why), but blogger says I've 500+ posts.
cannot be right... hmm

Over 5 years I've changed blogs... thrice maybe. I can't tell how many posts I've written. Some of them were lost though weathering and natural disasters, such as server crashes. I dunno. But I guess I'm in the club. I shake hands with everyone else in it.
Posted by: lionel | October 25, 2005 04:16 PM
Unfortunately, my current site contains less than 50 posts; however, that's because I removed all of my previous posts. If I summed the number of posts that I have written though, I'd guess that it would well be over a thousand.
I've been blogging since 1999, BTW.
And I'm staying.
(Yep, way before the advent of the blogging phenomena, and when I manually uploaded my pages everytime I wanted to update or add information to my blog.)
Posted by: Wan Zafran | October 25, 2005 04:25 PM
I don't even come close, since I only started 4 months ago. My entries are around 100+ but then again, I delete them from time to time. Don't you all??
Posted by: mahagurusia | October 25, 2005 04:26 PM
I started in May 2004 and wrote like there was no tomorrow, but I'm still only at around 600 posts. Some of those posts were pretty freakin' long; surely one huge post is worth a plethora of little ones, eh?
Posted by: Jordan | October 25, 2005 09:51 PM
well i started blogging in sept. 2003 and blogger.com tells me i had 829 posts so far.
still more than 100 posts to go before i can join the mile mile club. :)
Posted by: lucia | October 25, 2005 11:32 PM
i've been blogging since Feb 2001 with Blogger, but had a website that i had to manually upload updates too from 1999.
& just like Lionel & Wan Zafran, i've lost some of my posts from servers crashes, or during moves to new CMS (don't know how to move the different archive formats), and deleted some. i think i can say i've reached 1k at one point.
Posted by: midnite lily | October 26, 2005 05:01 AM
started since mid-2001. 631 posts so far.
Posted by: dJ phuturecybersonique | October 26, 2005 10:58 AM
Funny. I wonder which portion do I belong to, since I've been sporadically blogging since late 2001.
Probably still at the “wannabe fadwhore” level, eh?
Posted by: T-Boy | October 27, 2005 05:52 AM
T-Boy: Haha....well, to continue with what I was getting at: perhaps we need a club for people who have written a lot of words, not just a lot of posts. Maybe then we can be special too! ;)
Posted by: Jordan | October 27, 2005 09:07 AM
Yes, because you know, even bloggers need their ‘little bloggers’ stroked too.
Number of posts is a terrible denominator, by the way—because if a blogger's stature is supposed to depend on post count than Kahsoon is our king.
Posted by: T-Boy | October 27, 2005 11:19 AM
Blogging since March 2003. I've only got up about 850++ Posts to date. Can't possibly blog that much in the beginning. We got nothing to blog about.
Posted by: Edrei | October 27, 2005 11:24 AM
Tariq: Its not about stroking egos here -- its about identifying those who have been around for a while. There is some value (even if its just for the sake of curiousity) to find out Malaysian bloggers who have written a lot and been around for a while. There is no value judgement involved in either the quality or impact of their contribution to the blogosphere.
If not via # of blog posts, then how? :)
Posted by: Aizuddin Danian | October 27, 2005 12:05 PM
I've been blogging since 2000, though I'm blogging more frequently these days. So far I've 527 journal entries though I've posted about 1700+ comments on other blog entries.

Do you count those who are not regular pingers to PPS?
Posted by: Karcy | October 27, 2005 07:18 PM
Karcy: Of course! Why not?
Posted by: Aizuddin Danian | October 27, 2005 07:36 PM
I've had some form of pesonal site/online diary since 1998. Does that count?
Posted by: Tiara | October 27, 2005 08:01 PM
current blog 210 posts and counting. been too bz but i've always haf sumthing to say in my blog, but didnt get down to type it, simply because i cant find d time. so i tend to add all up into one post (yeah u can imagine my posts are). :p been blogging 'permenantly' (current blog) since 2003, on and off since 2001, and i'm staying. it's my way o talk 'behind' d people i despise too he he (even i know sumhow they could stumble into my blog and read)

I started blogging last year. I'm still at it till now. I dont think I've hit 1K already but I probably will and by the time you conduct this survey again, I'll probably proudly say YES.
Posted by: bibi | October 28, 2005 10:53 AM
I have 1674 posts in my LJ. Most of my stuff is private-locked though, because I don't want people trawling around my old stuff and pulling out stuff made when I was less mature. Inclusive of my early blogging days on Blogger, the amount of posts would probably be about 2000 or more. But my blogs on Blogger have all been locked in private, also for the same reason.
Posted by: Karcy | October 28, 2005 11:58 AM
I sometimes blog dozens of times a day, but I append all entries, so I only have one post per day. I developed the practice in college, on a mentor's advice that all aspiring writers should keep a journal. Moreover I use scribbling as a research methodology... I'm a philosopher of mind, and I like to cut up the little details of mental life... into even finer details ;).

I am ONLY a year old blogger. Three plus one blogs.
Total posts :
malaysiabest.net : 140
chanlilian.net : 877
penangfaces (dead) : 240
Mom's Daily : 113
1,370 in 365 days of blogging.
Average : 3.75 posting per day
I need a shrink.

Weird. My current blog is almost 2 years old (previous blogs prior to this died out), and I have only 300 + posts
Posted by: Chewxy | October 29, 2005 08:13 PM
another 300+ to reach 1000. w00t!
Posted by: Faizal | October 29, 2005 11:31 PM
I blog at two sites, KTemoc Konsiders and BolehTalk. I started the former in March this year and surprising has reached 698 postings today, while over at BolehTalk, where I have been blogging since Oct 2004, I can claim authorship of more than 50% of the 747 postings. That would make my total to be more than 1000 postings. There would be less than a dozen identical postings posted on the 2 sites. But I must admit it's getting more and more difficult to attend to 2 sites.
Posted by: KTemoc | October 31, 2005 09:19 PM
Over 2K posts in less than 2 years(Mac 06), exclude my ex-blog(1 year).

Wow! It's great to see everyone having so many posts! I've just got started, but yea...that could be an attainable goal that I will keep in mind.
Cheers everyone and happy blogging!
And by the way? Selamat Hari Raya and Happy Deepavali!!

You want longevity as a measurement? I don't.
If you want to find out who are the elder statesmen in the ‘blogosphere’, then take a bunch of blogs and review them.
Look for consistency, craftsmanship and brilliance. Occasionally reward some feller with a little gold star or something. Pat yourselves in the back.
Or, you know, see how many bloggers have been mentioned by other organizations in a positive way. Don't we have some dude who got mentioned by the RSF for being the bee's knees in the region for freedom?
There's an elder blog statesman there. Any more? Raised money for charity? Endlessly campaigned for the rights of a certain group of people? Formed a content-aggregation system that is still being used by most of the Malaysian blogging communities to this day?
There.

I've got 1400+ to date, but I am no longer prolific as I used to be.

I have about 300+ entries, and I've been blogging since July 2003. Seems I don't update frequently then!
