And So It Begins Anew...

And once again, the EPL Charity Community Shield is upon us, tomorrow.

For the purist, the Shield is no more than a traditional friendly match, where two English Champions troop out in their new kits (ka-ching! ka-ching!) and test their subs all in the good name of collecting for the needy.

The real football starts next week, on the day every team plays. But still, tonight, it all begins, week in week out until May next year. From now till then, there will be the FA Cup, League title, League Cup, red cards, winter transfer wrangles, 'career threatening' injuries, men acting like boys, general moaning about the lack of English players, etc.

But far from Blighty, here in Malaysia, the fever will start to build quickly. I can still remember the days of watching 'Big League Soccer' and 'Road to Wembley' on RTM2 on hour old ITT telly. Then when Astro kicked in, i used to pack in the smoky, stuffy mamaks around PJ straining to see the small idiot box to catch the action.

Now I've my own set and I can watch it right in my living room, while sending SMSes to my pals during the match.

So finally the season starts anew. Just as well, I'm sick of watching golf already.

(On a side note, I didn't know Aizuddin is a Newcastle fan!)
