PPS RSS is Broken
PPS RSS is broken. Won't go into specifics, but it sorta crumbled under the stress of the BETA, thus proving one of my initial fears correct: to handle volume, it requires a proper relational database behind it.
So i'm taking it offline now, and will replace it soon. Sorta screws up my special Merdeka Plans for PPS, but i'll do my best to make it right in time. Apologies all around.

Sorry to hear that. Gregarius (http://www.gregarius.net/) is a very good replacement of Lilina, you may want to try that.

Blew:
Way ahead of you, my friend. I already had a replacement before i took down Lilina. Gregarius it is, but its going to take some time to learn the ropes.
Pls standby everyone. Its in ALPHA testing now but you can check it out. Won't be accepting any new RSS feeds until i've got a handle on it.

Aiz,
Haha.. what a coincidence, when I was writing my previous reply, I was still seeing the old Lilina, but 30 minutes later, I am now seeing the new Gregarius.
Good works, Aiz!

Aizuddin, since Lilina uses MagpieRSS doesn't it support caching?
Posted by: Paul Tan | August 28, 2005 08:26 PM
It does support caching...what's the real problem then?

I just couldn't get it to accept any more feeds past a certain number. Tried deleting old ones, then adding new ones. That didn't work either.
No time to mess around and troubleshoot it. 31 August is just around the corner... lots still to do, especially the *&^%$ documentation for it all!! :)

Aiz,
Oops .. it seems that Gregarius isn't too suitable for sites like PPS that have many feeds. There might be a considerable amount of work to trim the feed previews and the list of sources.
When all else fail, remember there is still Drupal (i'm giving opinions again :). Now drupal sounds like a good idea, as it comes with an aggregator, it accepts trackbacks, and it lets you blog. Wow, a system that caters for all of PPS' needs!

kewl. I'm also using G for sometimes now, replacing planet planet. but I still prefer the enhanced lilina for PPS rss.
I dunno if G could handle large number of feed and organized them well as lilina.

aiz, is it ok that though i have signed up for PPS RSS and my ping appears there, that i still ping here - PPS? this is because not many people know of the existence of PPS RSS yet.

how many feeds are there? SARA's supporting 100 feeds currently...did you download lilina-head 0.3a or an earlier one?
Posted by: boringest | August 29, 2005 02:52 AM
Lucia: Its all good. All PPS users can sign up for all its services and use them all at the same time.

Boringest: It reached 67 feeds, then passed out. I suspect the rebuilds were timing out (its pretty slow). Gregarius seems quite a bit faster -- perhaps because it utilizes MySQL in the backend to store the feeds?
Posted by: Aizuddin Danian | August 29, 2005 04:48 PM
somehow it gets a bit slower between 60-90 feeds but after that, it's back to normal...no idea what really happens...anyway, let's see how gregarius goes =)
otherwise there's tiny tiny rss...

Gregarius is pretty powerful, and it seems to be supported by an active, well structured development community.
Most of the differences i've noticed between Lilina and Gregarius are quite cosmetic, and given some work, i can probably edit things quite quickly, but perhaps not in time for the Merdeka Day SURPRISE.
No matter what, PPS is going to change in a big way on 31 August. PPS RSS will have to wait a bit as i tinker with it.

thanks aiz, for the reply. it's a big relief knowing that. now that's what i call our friendly PPS. :)
oh wow! i can't wait for the big merdeka surprise. wonder what the devil is aiz up to. ;)

Hmm....Seems my rss feed is no longer in the PPS-RSS page. Can you check?
Posted by: nicktay | August 30, 2005 09:46 AM
Currently, all feeds except a few have been removed. I'll put them back in once i've had some time to put PPS RSS back together. Should be able to get it done over the Merdeka holiday.
