This is a polite reminder that all aspects of PPS, except user submitted content via pings or comments, are Copyrighted to PPS 2003-2005. This includes, though not limited to, the name of the project/website, "PROJECT PETALING STREET", "PPS", etc. Please do not use any of this copyrighted material without prior written approval from the Administrators of PPS.

Comments

So whenever I quote PPS or Project Petaling Street I have to put a ©?

BTW, why did you need to ping TWO time? :P

BlogCritic: Oops, sorry, deleted the second ping.

No, quoting is fine as per accepted journalistic/referencing practices.

However, there are some new projects coming up soon (and i'm very happy to welcome these new projects to the Malaysian blogosphere), and some of these projects are calling themselves "PPS-etc-etc". This is a clear violation of PPS' copyright.

oh... then 'The PPS Review' just violated that rights.
Did it..?
Though I wanna say that it's a pretty good idea. I meant the 'The PPS review'.

Put the copyright message somewhere ..

links pps policies, term of use, legal notice etc should be placed visibly on each page..

You might want to reword a part of your copyright notice from:

"This includes, though limited to, the name of the project/website..."

to:

This includes, though NOT limited to, the name of the project/website..."

Yes, please clarify. Do I need permission from you to call the website the "PPS Review"?

If so, how do I go about getting it?

Dzof: Generally accepted reference practice dictates that (pls correct me if i'm wrong, its been yonk years since i was in uni! :) ) if its for quotation purposes or for review/reference purposes, then its ok to you the copyrighted material.

What isn't ok, however, is that to use the name to promote, identify or duplicate another entity.

For example:

This is ok: "PPS is...", or "PPS said this..." or "Appearing on PPS..." -- as part of a review or reference to something that happened or was said or was done on PPS.

This is not ok: "This is PPS", "I am creating PPS II" -- (when it in fact is another product, or non-PPS related in any way).

Pretty straightforward stuff, i would believe. Pls don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Metria: Good spotting! Will change it. Thanks!

aiz, i believe you're mixing up copyrights with trademarks. the term "PPS" and "Petaling Street Project" are more suited towards a trademark than it is a copyright which would encompass a literary work.

Dinesh: True, James pointed that out to me yesterday. I'm registering PPS as a trademark.

Uhm, you can't copyright the name. You can apply for a trademark for it though.
