Some PPS answers

It always touches me deeply when someone takes the time to write about PPS -- any posting about PPS is a click-magnet for me! :) Danny has written some interesting things about PPS in the past and his latest effort has raised some relevant questions about the current programs related to PPS; i answered them as a comment. Hopefully, he'll approve them soon for publishing.

Win a SmarThumb on PPS!

UPDATE: New PPS project

I received all 12 applications to be BETA testers within a few hours of posting the notice going up. However, i'm sorry if i've not gotten back to all of you yet -- the pre-setup work for the new project will take longer than anticipated. Thank you for your patience, and for applying; i'll be writing to you in a few weeks time to start the testing.

Another PPS Project Looms!

Man, i've been an energizer bunny lately!

First, the PPS Birthday Bash! Then, an upgrade of PPS! Then, the PPS Blog (preview available soon)! And now, another TOP SECRET (well, secret for now, because i'm not sure whether it'll work and i don't want to embarass myself) project.

I need 12 able bloggers who would like to volunteer to be BETA testers for this new project. First 12 registered PPS members who email me pps(at)petalingstreet.org with the subject, "PPS BETA TESTER" (hint: visit the Wiki first), get the job! Preference will be given to people who are not involved in the PPS Blog project.

Full details on the Wiki.

PPS is not a blog, but who is to say that it can't have one? :)

Calling for bloggers who would like to be an official PPS Blogger!

PPS Maintenance

PPS may become unavailable over periods of this weekend and perhaps even into early next week to undergo some maintenance work. I apologize if this causes any inconvenience.

Interesting case: Opinions pls

Kahsoon.com is being parodied by ka-soons.blogspot.com. I've been asked by the real Kahsoon to delete/ban the parody site from pinging PPS. So far the only action i've taken is i've removed a few Ka-Soon pings that i found offensive and broke PPS rules by bolding.

Do you think PPS should ban the parody site altogether? Pls leave a comment.

Spam on PPS

Thanks to all who have emailed me when spam finds its way to PPS. Would like to remind EVERYONE to be VERY CAREFUL with the PPS ping URL. If you publish this URL anywhere on your website, the spambots will get their hands on it, then you're going to find spam on PPS. Let's keep PPS spam-free -- keep the PING URL to yourself!

PPS Shirts Away!

Everyone who has paid (and those who have promised to pay via email) -- your PPS Official 2nd Anniversary T-Shirts have been mailed today! If you live in Malaysia, please expect something in the post for you next week. Thanks to all for your wonderful support!

Reducing PPS bandwidth utilization

PPS popularity has shot through the roof these past 2 months (thanks to all those who make PPS their daily visit!). However, this success is creating its own set of problems for us: bandwidth utilization is very, very heavy. In access of 20GB as of last month. Sheesh. And its all just text!!!

One way to reduce this problem: don't copy and paste the source code for the PPS buttons/banners onto your blog. If you do this, then everytime someone visits your blog, you're actually leeching PPS bandwidth to display the image. More than 5GB of bandwidth was used in this manner last month.

To rectify this problem, please download the PPS button and save the image file onto your blog or onto some server space you have access to. This way, you will reduce the load on PPS.

Your kind understanding is most appreciated in this matter.

UPDATE: PaulTan has offered alternative image hosting, thanks!
